The ice-covered continent of Antarctica is white, and the major ice shelves (i.e., floating glacier ice) are light blue. Lines of longitude are red, and the Prime Meridian (Greenwich, or 0 ° longitude) points up. The National Science Foundation, a Federal agency, funds and manages the program. Field participants include scientists from universities, other research institutions, and Federal agencies, the NSF contractor Antarctic Support Associates and other contractors and subcontractors, the Department of Defense (Navy and Air Force), and the Coast Guard.
