[edit] uneXpect
uneXpect is an avantgarde extreme metal band hailing from Canada, whose importance in the metal world today lies in the unique amalgamation of completely different styles of music, from classical, gypsy music, and the entire spectrum of extreme metal.
When it came time to release the band’s debut album, the 1999 independently released Utopia, the band only had word of mouth and the still-growing Internet to push their goods. Without any proper distribution -- and thanks to a hard push by the band and the praise they received online from many countries all around the world - the album sold well and Unexpect made their first mark on the masses.
The ideas traveling in their art are related to the imagination and the inherent creative power of all human beings, subjective tales, trancelike sensorial exploration, undercover denunciation of social aspects and subconscious realities.
[edit] Biography
[edit] Overview
An eclectic band rooted in the creative soils of Montreal, Quebec; they mix elements of black, death, core, progressive and melodic metal; classical, operatic, medieval, electro, ambient, psychotic, noise and circus music with an occasional jazzy touch. The septet annihilates any perception we would have of them on CD and in a live environment put on one of the most spectacular and creative shows you’ll see, a show fuelled by a mish-mash of creative styles and an awe-inspiring adrenaline rush. And it’s that rush of ingenuity and uniqueness that has allowed the Montreal act to set themselves apart from the rest of the musical acts out there, both home and abroad. Their vocal performance range from an extreme to the other as they alternate between glorious choirs; inhuman screams of deep, high, mid-growl and delirious intensity; theatrical narrations; and clean/sober sections strewn with a female singer who's angelic voice could melt the will of the most vile corporate jerk. . In resumee...Think Cirque du Soleil goes black metal amidst an acid-trip version of The Dark Crystal.
[edit] Line-up and Albums
From their humble beginnings in 1996, the band saw its share of line-up changes, as only 3 members of this period are still in the band : Artagoth, syriaK and Exod (who was drummer at that time). uneXpect then recorded a full length album called " Utopia " in 1998 which saw the day only in 1999. This first offering was critically acclaimed by many countries around the world ( from Russia to Brazil by the way of the Philippines ) with no distribution whatsoever and with internet as only support. A new era began for these sound-painters with the release of a new surreal opus called _wE, Invaders in November 2003. This EP, released on the label Galy Records in America, caused quite a positive stir with the critics and introduced their will to create something different from the usual. They are now signed on the eclectic label The End Records and the new album "In a Flesh Aquarium" (their most weird creation yet) will be released on August 22, 2006 in North America. Fact : ChaotH introduced his trademark 9 stringed bass during a Galy Records show on June 4, 2005.
