Deletion review, policy, log
v  d  e

Votes for Deletion (VfD) is where Wikipedians decide what should be done with problematic articles. Items sent here usually wait five days or so; then the following actions can be taken on an article as a result of community consensus:

More information can be found at the Guide to Votes for deletion.

[edit] Things to consider

It is important to read and understand the Wikipedia deletion policy, which explains valid grounds for deletion, before adding comments to this page. Click "what links here" (in the sidebar of the article page) to see how the page is being used and referenced within Wikipedia.

If a page can serve as a useful redirect or be merged somewhere, do not list it here. Doing so only clutters VfD.

[edit] VfD etiquette

  • If you are the primary author or otherwise have a vested interest in the article, say so openly, clearly base your vote on the deletion policy, and vote only once, like everyone else.
  • Your opinion will be given the most weight if you are logged in with an account that already existed when the nomination was made. Anonymous and new users are welcome to contribute to the discussion, but their votes may be discounted, especially if they seem to be made in bad faith. If you have never contributed before, how are we supposed to know whether you're a valid contributor, or if you're just a friend or relative of the article's creator voting out of personal loyalty?
  • Please vote only once. If there is evidence that someone is using sock puppets (multiple accounts belonging to the same person) to vote more than once, those votes will not be counted.

You don't have to vote on every nomination; consider not participating if:

  • a nomination involves a topic of which you are ignorant.
  • consensus you agree with has already been formed.

Also, please see this discussion on the talk page of Wikipedia:Deletion Policy regarding notability.

[edit] How to list pages for deletion

First, be certain that deleting the page is what you want to recommend. If you can improve the article instead, do so. Consider if it might be better to redirect the article, rename it, or mark it for cleanup; you can do those boldly without listing the page here.

Also, the only pages that should be listed here are articles, pages in the Wikipedia namespace, and user pages. Go to the appropriate pages to nominate templates, categories, redirects, stub types or images and other media, or to report a copyright violation.

To list an article/page for deletion, follow this three-step process: (replace PageName with the name of the page to be deleted)

I.
Edit PageName.

  Enter the following text at the top of the page you are listing for deletion:

{{subst:vfd}}

Be sure to include "subst:", not just {{vfd}}; this is easier on the servers. Please include "Vfd" or similar in the edit summary and don't mark it as minor. Consider checking the "Watch this page" box to follow the page in your watchlist. This will help ensure that your VfD tag is not removed by a vandal. Save the page.

II.
Create its VfD subpage.

  You should see a prominent link to "this article's entry" in the new VfD text.
Follow that link (to Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/PageName) and enter this text:

{{subst:vfd2 | pg=PageName | text=Reason why the page should be deleted}} ~~~~

Put the page's name in place of "PageName" and include a reason after text=. Check the "Watch this page" box if you would like to follow the voting process in your watchlist. Save the page.

III.
Add a line to VfD.

  Follow   this edit link   and add a line to the bottom of the page:

{{subst:vfd3 | pg=PageName}}

Put the page's name in place of "PageName" and include the page's name in your edit summary. Save the page.
