Unbirthday
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
An Unbirthday is described as an event that is typically celebrated on any of the 364 days on which it is not the person's birthday. It is a term coined in Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll. It was also the subject of "The Unbirthday Song" in the 1951 Disney animated film Alice in Wonderland.
The lyrics of the song state:
- "Statistics prove, prove that you've one birthday, "
- "one birthday ev'ry year."
- "But there are three hundred and sixty four unbirthdays."
- "That is why we're gathered here to cheer."
- "A very merry unbirthday to you, to you. "
- "A very merry unbirthday to you,"
- "It's great to drink to someone and I guess that you will do."
- "A very merry unbirthday to you"
Since its inception, the word has worked its way into the lexicon to some extent, though it is not likely that it is actually celebrated by any considerable number of people. Sometimes, an "unbirthday" is celebrated at, say, a school for a person with an out-of-season birthday (i.e. birthday falls during vacation or holiday periods).
