[edit] Song information
It was released commercially in France in June 1993, and as a radio single in Canada at the same time. "Ziggy" was the second single from Dion Chante Plamondon in France and the fifth and last from that album in Canada.
It was performed originally by Fabienne Thibeault in Starmania musical in 1978.
The song was recorded also in English and included on the Tycoon compilation in September 1992 (which achieved platinum status in France).
There were two similar music videos made for the French and English version (1993). Both of them were directed by Lewis Furey (husband and producer of Quebec actress/singer Carole Laure). The first one can be found on Céline's DVD called On Ne Change Pas (2005). The music video features Dion sitting in the bleachers of a stadium and longing for a soccer player who is preoccupied with teammates. At the end, he is walking up to what appears to be a guy in a pullover with a hood over his head. When the hood is removed as they embrace, it is revealed to be Dion.
Live version of "Ziggy" was a part of Dion's later albums: À l'Olympia, Live à Paris and Au Coeur Du Stade . The song was also featured on two collections: The Collector's Series Volume One and On Ne Change Pas.
[edit] Chart success
"Ziggy" peaked at number two in France and was certified gold for selling over 365,000 copies. The song spent almost a year on chart, including seven weeks at number two position and eighteen weeks in top 10. It was Céline's breakthrough single in France and her biggest hit at that time.
