In computing, Umbrello UML Modeller is a free software UML diagram application available natively for Unix. It is part of the KDE Desktop Environment but works well with other desktops and programming environments. Umbrello has a clean and consistent user interface.

Umbrello handles all the standard UML diagram types. It can import C++, IDL, Ada, Python, and Java code (before version 1.5.1, Java was not directly supported but you could use the java2xmi tool) and export to various programming languages. The file format used is based on XMI.

It is released along the kdesdk module of KDE.

[edit] Criticisms of Umbrello

Users of Umbrello will be frustrated by its frequent crashes, often brought about by something as simple as moving the position of a class on a diagram. Its instability combined with lack of features such as the ability to select which members appear on a class diagram mean that Umbrello should only be used by the foolhardy.
