Ultimate Baseball Online

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ultimate Baseball Online also know by its acronym UBO is the first and currently the only baseball massively multiplayer online game. It was developed and published by Netamin Communication of Diamond Bar, CA with the assistance of former Major League Baseball player and World Series champion Darrell Evans. Earlier versions included UBO Homerun Tournament and UBO Batting Zone.

Released in April 2006, UBO 2006 is the most recent version and is currently free for its users, supported by the in-game advertising business model. UBO allows up to 18 users to play a baseball match in a virtual stadium, where they and their team earn experience points, level up, and improve their skills.

[edit] Avatar Creation

In UBO, the player can create and customize their avatar as a unique baseball character, selecting their baseball position for playing and viewing all game play from the unique perspective. Some of the many avatar customization options that UBO offers are:

  • Primary position
  • Gender
  • Body type
  • Facial characteristics

[edit] Game Modes

UBO offers several game modes: Practice; Pick up game, Tournament Play or UBO League Play. What differentiates UBO apart from other baseball games is the ability to play with real players. UBO encourages players to create their own teams. For pick up games, players meet in the lobby to join teams in an ad-hoc fashion

[edit] Spokesperson

Darrell Evans, a two-time Major League Baseball All-Star (1973 & 1983) and World Series champion (1984), serves as UBO’s Baseball Ambassador. "Ultimate Baseball Online really does capture the feeling of being a member of a team,” said Darrell Evans. “Video games are usually a solitary experience. UBO gives players a great appreciation for the nuances of each position, as well as an understanding of the teamwork that is involved in playing the sport of baseball successfully. And best of all, as an online game with three virtual seasons per year, you can play competitive baseball year round.”

[edit] Patches

1.080, the most recent patch, was released October 12, 2006 and greatly improved AI players, connectivity, and added some new animations.
