[edit] Flag
I've reverted the vandalism that removed the flag icon from the infobox. But would it be more appropriate to use the instead? It is used instead of the tricolour at away matches, and is flown beside the tricolour at home matches. Stu ’Bout ye! 11:23, 28 March 2006 (UTC)
- I don't know the chairman or the coach but I would presume that they are not citizens of the Republic of Ireland. If this is the case, it is not appropriate to use the tricolour with their name. This complicates things somewhat, if the flag of provinces is used instead this means that the other provinces should also have the tricolours removed. Otherwise it would imply that this flag was a 'Northern Ireland flag' which it is not. I also don't think it miniturises very well.
- I think a Northern Ireland flag would be the simplest solution.GordyB 13:23, 28 March 2006 (UTC)

- Hmm, this may be a tricky one. McCall's from Northern Ireland, not sure about the Chairman. I don't think a Northern Ireland flag is appropriate either, as Northern Ireland don't complete as a rugby playing nation. The Ireland team are unique as they don't represent one single country, so any national flag is inappropriate I think. But you're right about the provinces flag too, doesn't look great minimised. I still think it is the best bet though. Stu ’Bout ye! 15:23, 28 March 2006 (UTC)

- Putting a flag of either NI or RoI against either the national team or a branch would be nonsense for the reason stated. I don't see the problem with doing it with individuals, even if Ulster Rugby is not strictly speaking a Northern Ireland team, individual members can be Northern Irish.

- I sometimes see a Shamrock used to represent the Irish team on internet sites in place of a flag. But some might say that this is something of a cliche.GordyB 19:57, 28 March 2006 (UTC)

- How about using the IRFU flag in all the branch articles where relevant? I can't find any photos of it online though to base the picture on. --Kwekubo 22:33, 28 March 2006 (UTC)

- I don't think I've even seen the IRFU flag. As Gordy said, if we were to change this the other provinces would have to be changed as well. And I can see a lot of opposition to that. Maybe it should be raised at the Rugby Union Portal, or the Irish Wikipedians' notice board and Northern Irish Wikipedians' notice board. Stu ’Bout ye! 08:28, 29 March 2006 (UTC)

- It's totally wrong to use the Republic of Ireland flag beside these names? Why would this flag be put beside these names? Why not just use the Ulster Flag, because that is the province from which both the manager and coach come from? Image:Provincial Ulster Flag.gif. Neither of these men are from the republic of ireland, so the use of the ROI flag would be wrong. If a nationality flag MUST be displayed, then I suppose it's got to be the UK flag. Maybe the best bet is to remove the flags altogether.

[edit] Flags and shamrocks
A discussion was held at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Rugby union as what symbol should be used to represent Irish rugby union (see also Ireland national rugby union team talk page.
The upshot of the vote was that a Shamrock should be used. I shall be replacing any other flags with this [[Image:Irish clover.jpg |{{{1|20}}}px]] .GordyB 21:25, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
