Ulmen

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ulmen is a village in western Germany. It is part of the district Cochem-Zell, and the state Rhineland-Palatinate. It is situated in the southern Eifel, approx. 15 km north-east of Cochem.

The name of the town derives from the German word for the Elm tree. Several crater lakes, known as Maars, are nearby, the Ulmener Maar and the Jungfernweiher. The Ulmener Maar is the youngest of the volanic lakes of the Eifel region and provides the water supply for Ulmen. In Ulmen, one can find the ruins of an 11th century castle.
