[edit] History

When on March 12, 1999 Poland joined North Atlantic Treaty Organisation a problem arose with modifing the weapons of the Polish Army to use standard Nato ammunition. After the introduction of the new assult rifle Kbk wz. 96 Beryl (5.56 x 45 mm NATO), the WIST-94 pistol and the wz. 84 (9 x 19 mm NATO) submachine gun, a decision was made to develop a new general purpose machine gun. The construction was based on the design of the successful and battle tested PK/PKS machine gun.
