From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ukek (Tatar: Ükäk /y`kæk/) was a medieval city (13th-14th centuries) in Golden Horde. It was placed on the Volga, near the modern Saratov, in the Uvekovka river's estuary. In the beginning of 14th century it was a major trade and political center of Golden Horde. Ukek coined own money. In 1395 Timur's troops ruined the city. The ruins of palace, mosque, apartments and workshops are still preserved.
