UFC 50: The War of '04 was a mixed martial arts event held by the Ultimate Fighting Championship on October 22, 2004, at the Trump Plaza in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The event was broadcasted live on pay-per-view in the United States, and later released on DVD. Headlining the card were Tito Ortiz and Patrick Côté. Côté was a late replacement for Lion's Den fighter Guy Mezger, who pulled out of the event due to a medical condition. [1]

[edit] Light Heavyweight Bout: Travis Lutter vs. Marvin Eastman
Lutter defeats Eastman by knockout (punches) at :33 of round two. Lutter was a replacement for Patrick Côté, who filled in for Guy Mezger in the main event.

Salaverry defeats Fryklund by submission (body triangle) at 1:36 of round one.

Tanner defeats Lawler by submission (triangle choke) at 2:22 of round one.

Trigg defeats Verissimo by technical knockout (strikes) at 2:11 of round two.

Matt Hughes defeats Georges St. Pierre by submission (armbar) at 4:59 of round one. Hughes becomes the UFC Welterweight champion.
[edit] Middleweight Bout: Rich Franklin vs. Jorge Rivera
Franklin defeats Rivera by submission (armbar) at 4:28 of round three. The match was stopped at :29 into the first round by an inadvertent groin strike by Rivera.
[edit] Light Heavyweight Bout: Tito Ortiz vs. Patrick Côté
In the main event of the evening, Tito Ortiz defeats Patrick Cote by unanimous decision. Initially, Tito Ortiz had been scheduled to fight Guy Mezger, a Lion's Den fighter and a rival of Ortiz'. However, Mezger suffered from stroke-like symptoms several weeks before the fight, prompting the UFC officials to find a replacement for the main event. They moved Patrick Côté, a French Canadian Light Heavyweight and TKO Light Heavyweight Champion, from the undercard to the main event.
