[edit] Middleweight bout: Evan Tanner vs Phil Baroni
In a controversial match, Evan Tanner defeats Phil Baroni by technical knockout due to strikes at 4:42 of round 1. Baroni came out swinging as the match began, and had Tanner on the verge of falling down from his punches. However, the match was paused due to a profusely bleeding cut on Tanner's face. The cutman began working on the wound before the commission doctor could take a look at it, which is a violation of commission rules. Given that time to recover, Tanner came back delivering knees in the clinch and eventually worked to a full mount, and with some verbal miscommunication between Baroni and referee Larry Landless, the fight was stopped. Furious over the stoppage, Baroni grabbed Landless's lapel and threw a punch that sent the arena into disorder. UFC President Dana White flew into the cage and publicly lambasted Baroni on-camera for his lack of self-control. This was Tanner's first match at middleweight since coming down from the light heavyweight division.
[edit] Heavyweight bout: Tank Abbott vs Wesley "Cabbage" Correira
Wesley Correira defeats Tank Abbott by technical knockout by doctor stoppage due to a cut. The cut was caused by a Correira knee strike. After the bout, a near riot between numerous members of both Abbott's and Correira's entourages ensued after Cabbage did his victory dance. Officials rushed the cage to extinguish a number of melees. A supporter of Correira even managed to slip past security and scale the Octagon walls to challenge Abbott before Chuck Liddell jumped between the two men. Abbott would avenge the loss to Correira at Rumble on the Rock 7, winning by knockout.
