[edit] History

USJ is a planned community developed by Sime UEP Berhad, a property developer controlled by Malaysian conglomerate Sime Darby Berhad. The site was formerly Seafield Estate, an oil palm plantation. Construction began in 1988, after the completion of Subang Jaya. Apart from a few small parcels of land, the development of USJ is almost completed.

In 1997, local authority was transferred from the Majlis Daerah Petaling (MDP) (Petaling District Council) to the newly created Majlis Perbandaran Subang Jaya (MPSJ) (Subang Jaya Municipal Council). The headquarters of the MPSJ is located in USJ.

Sime UEP recently received an accolade from the International Real Estate Federation (FIABCI) Malaysian Chapter's Award of Distinction 2000 in the "Best Residential Development" category for the development of USJ.

[edit] Amenities and accessibility

USJ is now a maturing township well-provided with amenities. It features one of the only 3 vision schools in the country and newly built schools, the Subang Jaya Municipal Council Complex with its adjoining football turf and athletic fields and a very vibrant and robust commercial centre dubbed Taipan(USJ 10).

Taipan is the township's central business area and is famous throughout the Klang Valley for its variety of food outlets. There are numerous food outlets ranging from fastfood, alfresco dining, modern contemporary cuisine down to fusion asian-western food.

USJ also has shopping malls such as the Summit Square and local hypermarket chain Giant and local whole-saler Mydin, located at the north-eastern part of the residential city.

Due to the location of the township at the criss-crossing of a network of highways, it has experienced accelarated growth, and rocketing property appreciation. These highways and byways that define the edges and that passes through the town makes it one of the most accessible places in the country but also as one of the most congested places in the Klang Valley. These network of highways are the Federal Highway, the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE), Ekspress Ligkaran Timur Tengah (ELITE), KESAS, the Damansara-Puchong Highway (LDP) and the New Pantai Expressway (NPE).

Subang Jaya inclusive of the USJ area boast of three lane roads in a residential area, however due to the excessive dependency to private transportation, this residential's road system are often over-capacitated during rush hours. (includes lunch and dinner time during the weekends).
