Uckfield Community Technology College (UCTC) is situated in Uckfield, UK and has approximately l,650 students, including 350 in the sixth form college on campus. The school motto is "Realising Potential". The logo is a white prism; a rainbow going in one end and white light coming out of the other. It was changed to this in the early 2000s from an abstract drawing of green people representing the "tree of knowledge".
There are three houses within the school - Ashdown, Downland and Wealden. They previously took the names of famous English people within history, one of which was Nightingale.
The current principal is Craig Pamphilon.
The school has educational links with New York, Boston and Ghana, and is looking to start them with India as well.
The college does consistently well in league tables and was rated 'excellent' in a recent Ofsted report. Many of the students go on to university. The school has numerous courses which are very popular with students. The sixth form has courses in many subjects, including Horticulture. Philosophy, Psychology (a particular favourite), Sociology and Photography.
UCTC achieved specialist school status in Spring 2002 and has invested in an infrastructure for learning that benefits all students in all subject areas. A substantial proportion of the funding is directed to Adult Learning and to joint curriculum projects with Partner Primary Schools. The school also has a "healthy eating policy" which means soft drinks are not sold on campus and the cafe has an excellent, healthy menu.
The form groups in each year are named for the town and the millennium. Each class begins with the number of the year (7 - 11) and then a letter (U, C, K, F, I, E, L, D, M, N). In sixth form, this changes as the classes take the initials of their mentor.
The school uniform is a navy blue sweatshirt, navy blue skirt or trousers and white polo shirt. The rugby shirts worn by boys during PE lessons each display a stripe which signifies the which house they are in. Members of Downland house have a blue stripe, Ashdown have white and Wealden wear red. The stripes, however, are on the inside so shirts are reversible and must be worn inside out to reveal the colour. Sixth formers do not wear uniform.
