Ubay ibn Khalaf

Ubay ibn Khalaf was a non-Muslim who was a contemporary and an enemy of the Islamic prophet Muhammad.

When Uqbah ibn Mu'ayt (sic) became Muslim, he left it on the behalf of his friend Ubay ibn Khalaf, spiting on Muhammad's face, and then both died in the Battle of Badr (624 CE). Verse 25:27 is regarding those two ^[1]

He was ransomed from after Badr, but was killed by Muhammad himself with a spear in the Battle of Uhud (625 CE). Verse 8:17 was revealed in this occasion^[2] He was the only person killed personally by Muhammad ^[3]. He was a commander ^[4]

According to the Hadith of the prediction in Sura al-Rum, he betted with Abu Bakr.
