United States Numbered Highways

U.S. Highway 311 is a spur of U.S. Highway 11. It runs for 78 miles (126 km) from Eden, North Carolina to Randleman, North Carolina. Its entire run is in the state of North Carolina. It passes through the city of Winston-Salem and bypasses downtown High Point. The 311 Bypass around High Point is currently being constructed. So far, the segment from N. Main Street to Business 85 is the only section open to traffic. The old 311 route through downtown High Point has been signed as Business 311. Sections of U.S. Highway 311 may be used for the future Interstate 74 corridor. 311 is considering a numbering violation as the current version does not come with 100 miles of its parent route US 11. It also violates guidelines for US highways that exist solely in one state being no less than 200 miles.

Starting and ending at US 220, this highway mainly connects Rockingham County with Forsyth, Guilford, and Randolph Counties. US-311 shares pavement with U.S. Highway 52 and Interstate 40 in Forsyth County. It leaves Interstate 40 at Exit 196 and travels to High Point. Business 311 leaves 311 at N. Main Street and returns to 311 at Business 85 south of High Point. US 311 than travels along South Main Street through southern High Point and on Main Street in the Randolph County town of Archdale. 311 draws to the close in Randleman at the US 220 (Future Interstate 73/74) Expressway.
