From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The following major changes happened to US 13 and the Norfolk area SR 13:
- 1926: US 13 designated over all of SR 34
- 1933: SR 34 dropped
- 1938: SR 13 created, Little Creek to Northampton Boulevard, replaced part of SR 165
- by 1941: SR 13 extended west to Norfolk along US 460, south to Gilmerton along SR 27/SR 170, and west to Bowers Hill replacing SR 299
- by 1944: US 13 extended over SR 13 south and west to Military Highway, south on Military Highway to Gilmerton, and west over SR 13 to Bowers Hill; old SR 13 from Military Highway west to downtown Norfolk becomes SR 13Y (SR 166 in 1956)
- 1951: US 13 rerouted from Cape Charles to Kiptopeke Beach over part of SR 186, old route became US 13 Alternate (SR 184 in 1958)
- 1952: US 13 extended west along US 58 to Suffolk, south on SR 32 and south replacing SR 37 to NC
- 1964: CBBT opens, US 13 swaps with SR 166 (ex-US 460) south of the CBBT
