U.P. Computer Center
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The U.P. Computer Center is an independent unit of the Diliman campus of the University of the Philippines that provides high-speed computer and information technology services to the University faculty, administration and students. It is housed in the UP Alumni Engineers (UPAE) Building at the back of the Melchor Hall compound.
Also called the UP CC (or CC for short), the facility serves as the central hub that interconnects the fiber-optic backbones in UP Diliman and other UP campuses. The center is also the hub of the UP Diliman Wireless Network, which has 16 WiFi Hot Spots all over the campus as of 2006.
The UP Computer Center should not be confused with the Department of Computer Science of the UP College of Engineering, a common mistake made by visitors and callers to the University trunkline.
The center is administered by a member of the faculty and manned by full-time employees and student assistants. As of 2006, the Director of the center is Prof. Nestor Michael C. Tiglao of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Tiglao succeeded Prof. Rommel P. Feria of the Department of Computer Science.
