U105 is a Belfast based radio station, providing a mix of music and speech as well as hourly news bulletins. Its owners, UTV Radio say the station will be real competition for the BBC's Radio Ulster.
U105 broadcasts on 105.8 FM to Belfast and surrounding area. It launched at 6am on Monday the 14th of November 2005. UTV also broadcasts the radio station throughout Northern Ireland on its chunk of Freeview's Multiplex 2 (which it shares with Channel 4 and Teletext).
Ofcom, the British communications regulator, awarded the licence to UTV, which was up against stiff competition from local and national radio groups.
It broadcasts from the Black Mountain transmitting station, located a few miles to the west of Belfast.
