Intelligent design has gathered significant controversy and criticism in the short time it has existed. The reasons for this may stem from issues of the philosiphy of science as well as the means and motivations of the intelligent design movement. Criticisms of Intelligent design fall into broad and overlapping catagories:

[edit] Intelligent design and the scientific method

Intelligent design is commonly called "intelligent design theory", a name that is rigerously disputed by the scientific community. In order to meet the definition of a scientific theory, intelligent design must follow the scientific method and essays describing it must pass through peer review by scientists in the relevant field. Common criticisms from both lay practicioners of science and numerous scientific peer associations have attested that intelligent design has failed both of these criteria.

[edit] Intelligent design and logic

[edit] Intelligent design and creationism

The motivations of the thinkers behind intelligent design are addressed in the intelligent design movement article.
