Tzitzimime

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In Aztec mythology, Tzitzimime, the "monsters from above", were star gods or demons.

They are a group of female gods, the most important of which is Itzpapalotl. It was believed that they would come for the living after the end of the world. They were also believed to linger around crossroads in the night waiting for humans.

Legends have it that Tzitzimime took the form of a donkeys skull and appeared at crossroads at night. If one sees it, it would follow him all the way home, screaming.
