Tyukalinsk

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tyukalinsk (Russian: Тюка́линск) is a town in Omsk Oblast, Russia, situated 120 km northwest of Omsk, and 60 km northeast of the Trans-Siberian's Nazyvayevsk rail station. Population: 12,007 (2002 Census).

In 1759, a post station of Tyukalinsky Stanets (Тюкалинский станец) existed on the Tyukala River in place of modern Tyukalinsk. It developed into sloboda of Tyukalinskaya (Тюкалинская) in 1763. In 1823, it was granted town status, which was retracted in 1838, and reinstated in 1878. Tyukalinsk lost commercial importance along with the Great Siberian Way after the construction of the Trans-Siberian Railway.
