The Tyrolean Hound is supposedly descendant of the Celtic Hounds. Emperor Maximilian I used this hound for hunting hare and fox and for tracking wounded game. Selectve breeding began in 1860 which lead to the breed being officially regocnised in 1908. These dog often hunted alone (not in a pack) and had a fine scenting ability.

This medium sized hound has broad flat ears set high on the head. They have a thick double coat and coarse undercoat, the rear legs are well feathered. There are two main colours, red and also black and tan both of which may have white markings.
