Football player Tyrell DelShawn Sutton was born on December 19, 1986 in Akron, Ohio to Connie and Anthony Sutton, Sr. Has two brothers, Tony and Marcel. Brother Tony was a record-setting running back at Archbishop Hoban High School in Akron, Ohio, and went on to star at Division III College of Wooster, and the Hula Bowl Maui All-Star Game in Hawaii in January, 2005. Sutton is the starting running back for the Northwestern Wildcats.

He is now entering his sophomore season as a starter at Northwestern University at running back. At 5-9 and 190 pounds, Sutton has emerged as one of the top backs in the nation. Many thought he was too small to play college football, being passed up by big name schools such as Ohio State and the University of Notre Dame. In the 2005 season, he finished with 1,515 yards on 250 carries and scoring 16 touchdowns.
