Two-stroke oil

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Two-stroke oil (also referred to as two-cycle oil, 2-cycle oil, or 2-stroke oil) is an engine oil intended for use in two-stroke engines like those in many lawnmowers, motorscooters, auto-rickshaws, snow throwers (blowers), chain saws, toy engines such as those in model airplanes, certain gardening equipment like weed/grass trimmers, leaf blowers, soil cultivators, etc. Since these lightweight engines do not feature oil sumps to collect and recycle oil like conventional engines, oil is mixed into the fuel mixture for distribution throughout the engine and is ultimately burned along with the fuel resulting in a distinctive odor. The 2-cycle oil is commonly pre-mixed with gasoline by the user in a gasoline : oil ratio of 50 : 1, although other pre-mixing ratios such as 30 : 1 are sometimes used.
