Twins of Evil
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Twins of Evil is a 1971 horror film by Hammer Film Productions. It is the third film of The Karnstein Trilogy, based on the vampire tale Carmilla by Sheridan Le Fanu. It stars Peter Cushing, Mary Collinson, Madeleine Collinson and Damien Thomas. Much of the interest of the film revolves around the contrasting evil and good natures of two beautiful sisters, Frieda and Maria Gellhorn (played by twin Playmates Mary and Madeleine Collinson). It is sometimes seen as a prequel to The Vampire Lovers, the first film in the Karnstein Trilogy, as the set design and costumes give the film an 18th Century look and feel.

[edit] Plot
In Central Europe, identical twin teenage girls (Maria and Frieda) are sent to live with their uncle Gustav Weil. Their uncle is a puritan who leads the Brotherhood: a vigilante group trying to stamp out vampirism. The Brotherhood torture and kill several innocents in their pursuit of a supernatural killer in their midst. The vampires Count Karnstein and Countess Mircalla are the source of the terror, turning one of the twins into a vampire. Tragedy follows as zealots and vampires confuse the twins either by accident or deliberately.
While Mircalla appears in this film (portrayed by German actress Katya Wyeth after Ingrid Pitt knocked back the role) she is only briefly featured in the film. This movie has the least resemblance to Sheridan Le Fanu's Carmilla of the Karnstein Trilogy and adds a witchfinding theme to the vampire story.
