Twinkie-Wiener Sandwich

The Twinkie-Wiener Sandwich (also known as a Twinkie Dog, or sometimes misspelled Twinkie-Weiner Sandwich) is a favorite snack of "Weird Al" Yankovic. The unorthodox snack food was first shown in Weird Al's movie UHF, in which Al makes the snack in order to cheer up his friend after Al gets them both fired. The sandwich has come up again in other instances of Al's TV specials and his show, The Weird Al Show.

Ingredients needed for a Twinkie-Wiener Sandwich are a Twinkie, American "spray cheese" (Easy Cheese, as depicted in UHF), a hot dog, and a glass of milk.

To start out, cut the Twinkie along the top from one end to the other, but do not cut it in half (slice it open); cut it like you would envision a hot dog bun, so that it will be able to hold the hot dog. The preferred fashion includes the microwaving of the hot dog for 44 seconds, although it can be used sans cooking. Next, place the hot dog inside the "bun" that you have created from the Twinkie. Add the spray cheese as you would do with ketchup or mustard on a regular hot dog. Lastly, dip the Twinkie-Wiener Sandwich in milk immediately prior to eating.

In 1992 Weird Al became a vegetarian and now eats no meat and avoids eggs and dairy products.^[1] This has led to a vegetarian-friendly version of the snack where both the included milk and hot dog are replaced with soy-based replacements such as veggie dogs. These replacements are not mandatory, nor has Al specifically advocated doing so.

On October 23, 2006, when Weird Al filled in for a recuperating anchor on HOT 99.5 FM he demonstrated the construction and consumption of a Twinkie-Wiener Sandwich on the air. Al made sandwiches for the cast and crew present; few found the sandwich appetizing, even congratulating Al on his ability to eat it at all.^[2]
