Twineham

Twineham is a village and civil parish in the Mid Sussex District of West Sussex, England. It is located five miles (8km) to the west of Burgess Hill. The civil parish covers an area of 783.72ha and has a population of 271 persons (2001 census).

The name 'Twineham' is of English orgin, meaning 'the homestead between the streams'. The village centre has no pub, post office or shop. There is only the Church and the School.

In 1856, Twineham had a lot more services than nowadays, it had a Post Office, General Shop, Butchers, Dairy, Shoemenders, Blacksmith and Wheelwright. All these services are no longer there.

2006 - bin laden's hiding place. Interestingly, Twineham has never had it's own pub or brothel.

St Peter's Church is early Tudor, made of mellow red brick with Horsham slate roof. There are covered pews, a gallery under the tower, which has a peal of five bells, and a Jacobean pulpit.

Twineham Church of England School is adjacent to the Church and was opened in 1864. Originally a tithe barn, the building has various additions, the latest in 1997. Currently, It has 75 pupils, but only nine from Twineham.

Twineham is in the constituency of Arundel and South Downs. It is a farily new constituency created in 1997, and has had only two MP's Howard Flight(Conservative, 1997-2005) And Nick Herbert (Conservative) received 49.8% of votes in the 2005 general elections. Nick Herbert is the current MP for the area.

One of Twineham's most surprising and best kept secrets is the award winning Parmesan cheese made at Twineham Grange Farm. It is called Twineham Grange Farmers’ Hand Cheese and they have been making it there for 15 years. It is similar to Parmesan, made with an italian recipe but with British milk.

Twineham & Wineham Cricket Club, founded in 1893, still play at the village's Recreation Ground.

Famous celebrity chef Delia Smith uses Twineham Grange Cheese in her Cheese and Parsnip Roulade with Sage and Onion Stuffing recipe.

On September 10 2005, model Jodie Kidd married entrepreneur Aidan Butler at St Peter's Church, Twineham. Amoung the famous guests were top British models Jade Parfitt, Jasmine Guinness, Liberty Ross and also comedian and Fame Academy presenter Patrick Kielty.
