Turtle Island (Snowshoe Lake, Ontario)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Turtle Island is a small island located 1.54km from the Manitoba/Ontario Border in Ontario. It's 400 meters long and 140 meters wide at it's longest points. It is only accessible by canoe and the best landing spot is on the eastern side of the island. The island is named after the snapping turtles that inhabited the area. Strawberries are known to grow on the island. There are some chairs and a oven (made from rocks) located on the eastern side. The Western side is thick bush. Each year it is visited by students, in the Brandon, Manitoba area, who are participating in the award winning Eco Odyssey program.
