Turkix

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Turkix is a live Linux distribution, capable of self-installing on hard disk using a graphical wizard. The main goal is to provide a very user-friendly Linux environment.

First two versions of Turkix (1.0 and 1.9) were in Turkish and Azerbaijani only, but later releases are targeting international audience and being in English.

The main features of Turkix:

  • Package Management System: 100% rpm compatible rpmx
  • Desktop Environment: KDE
  • a new file hierarchy (which is more Windows and Mac OS alike) instead of the traditional one
  • a new control panel which is a merge of KDE Control Center, Mandrake Control Center and some additional tools
  • new control tools
  • cosmetically modified KDE, which is more user-friendly (especially "MS-Windows-user-friendly")
  • rpmx (rpm eXtended) which leads to the new file hierarchy
  • a clone of Mac OS X's Exposé included in default installation
  • hard-disk installation wizard
  • improvements in the live CD so that minimal configuration can also boot Turkix without problem (virtual swap area creation)
  • a "My Computer" clone
  • 100% compatible with Mandrake
