Turkish revolutionaries

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Turkish revolutionaries (in Turkish Kuvayi Milliye or Kuvai Milliye) were nationalists of Turkish national movement who rebelled against the partitioning of the Ottoman Empire by the allies aftermath of the Armistice of Mudros during World War I. After establishing establishment of the Turkish national movement and the successful independence war, they established the independent state that became the Republic of Turkey.

Turkish revolutionaries were mainly influenced by ideas flourishing during the Tanzimat period. Turkish revolutionaries should not be associated with the Young Turk movement of the same period, which was tightly bound to the Ottoman State. Turkish revolutionaries indeed were not a homogenous group of people, as they had different ideas on social and political issues. There were years that most of them did not communicate with each other, even though they occupied major points of the social and political structures. The common idea that held them together was having a sovereign nation.

Note: Most of the individuals listed below served the Revolution in multiple capacities. The classifications below are in suggestion of those for which they have most been remembered.
