[edit] "Axis"

Historical note: Turkey was not an "axis" power during the First World War as the Axis only existed during the Second World War (and consisted of Germany and Italy, with Japan tacked on as well). Turkey was a nonbelligerent power in the Second World War, but declared war on Germany just in time to "win". The side on which the Ottoman Empire (as against Turkey, they're two different powers) fought in the First World War is often referred to as the "Central Powers". However, be careful even saying that "Turkey" was part of this grouping, as the Republic of Turkey didn't exist at the time. BigHaz 09:36, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
