Tunisia registered to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 1977, held at the Wembley Conference Centre in London. Although drawn to sing at position number four, Tunisia withdrew for uncertain reasons. It is rumoured that a major factor in their decision to withdraw was based on the fact that Israel was also in the contest. To date, the only African nation to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest is Morocco, who made just one appearance, in the 1980 contest.
