Tullio Campagnolo

Tullio Campagnolo (August 26, 1901February 3, 1983) was an Italian cyclist who invented the quick release skewer and started the Campagnolo company that manufactures high end bicycle parts.

He was a cyclist between 1922 and 1930. In 1930 he patented the quick release skewer and used it for the first time in the hubs. In 1933 he started Campagnolo company. He then invented a particular rod derailleur and in 1949 he patented the first modern derailleur, called Campagnolo Gran Sport.

His parts were used by champion as Fausto Coppi, Gino Bartali, Eddy Merckx and so on. In particular Eddy Merckx was a good friend of him.

He died in 1983, just after the presentation of the famous "Gruppo del Cinquantenario" (50th anniversary of Campagnolo establishment groupset).
