[edit] Good work

Good work on railways in South Yorkshire!

With regard to the Mexborough - Barnsley line, I have read elsewhere that this closed to passengers in 1966. Are you sure of the 1959 date?BaseTurnComplete 19:52, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

Yes, definately 1959 for the local passenger services between Doncaster and Barnsley. There was a newspaper train from Manchester Piccadilly to Cleethorpes via Penistone and Barnsley which ran later and this, at least at some time, had passenger accommodation. I travelled on it once and that would have been in the sixties. I will look at my wording.

Ta. I have a feeling that there were at least some stopping passenger trains until 1966 as I've seen that date mentioned eleswhere for the closure of Wath Central at least. However, sods law, now that I try I can't put my hand on the book that mentioned it so it's my memory being tested.BaseTurnComplete 15:03, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
It looked like your memory served you correctly. Having followed this up I've found that the local Doncaster-Barnsley-Penistone service did indeed finish in 1959, however the 1.17am Manchester-Barnsley-Cleethorpes through train was still running over the line in 1963.BaseTurnComplete 14:52, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
