[edit] Crossing a flag
Please do not cross flags on your user page. This may offend others and is even considered a crime in many countries. I am sure you are able to express your valuable opinion in a respectful way. May I ask why you dislike a union you do not even belong to? Imagine someone crossed the flag of your country - also a union. ROGNNTUDJUU! 21:08, 4 March 2006 (UTC)
- How dare you write me: "Please do not cross flags on your user page. This may offend others and is even considered a crime in many countries. I am sure you are able to express your valuable opinion in a respectful way. May I ask why you dislike a union you do not even belong to? Imagine someone crossed the flag of your country - also a union. ROGNNTUDJUU! 21:08, 4 March 2006 (UTC)"? It is my opinion on my User page -- and since you asked why I dislike a union I don't even belong to -- I think it is an anticapitalist, socialist boondoggle that'll only weaken good nations (like the UK) but that is my opinion -- and people cross out the US flag all the time, yes it pisses me off, but it is their right... freedom of expression, its been around since around 1789 (before as well) you should check into it...
And how dare you delete the No-EU.png image! - I don't believe you have that authority TuckerResearch 06:46, 5 March 2006 (UTC)
- I did not delete the image, I just asked you to delete it and someone else did because it violates wikipedia policy not to use divisive user boxes. If you say it pisses you off if people cross out other flags I think you should show some respect and not cross out one yourself. You are free to express whatever concerns you have in a respectful way. ROGNNTUDJUU! 12:40, 5 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Thanks
You're about the only person with whom I have agreement on the issue of Thatcherism...Proberally because you're well-educated!;-] I see that you have an intrest in the British empire....:-] A strange facination....unless you are a British expat? Funny that, I've just been to Bristol, which I am sure you may know was the foundation of the empire, although the slavery related parts weren't so nice. Maybe you've heard of IK Brunel? I also see that you like Blackadder, which happens also to be my favourite comedy, I did not know that it could be seen in the US! Although the BBC does have world respect...N'way, thanks for the message. I'm also suprised about the fox hunting and hereditary peers. You're knowledge is rather vast! Although you do say that you take an interest in British politics...Can't blame yer, I think that what we have is a good system...Not to insult senates or powerfull presidencies...maybe. You should know that that fox hunting box was itself a conversion of an anti-fox hunting one taken from User:Jtdirl, the page of a not very like-minded academic on this side of the pond but over the Irish sea from me :-] I am interessed to know what your views on devolution and monarchy in Britain are...And I would also like to know what nomlecalture is used in US for the small island on which I live...I have heard that people mistakenly say England in referance to the country of the UK...I am a keen unionist you see! Lofty 20:05, 5 June 2006 (UTC) PS Reading on, I also see Fawlty Towers! We really so share the same comedy intrests!Lofty 20:12, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
Looks like I'm in agreement here! I was aware about the stamping out of the slave trade during the reign of William IV (I think), and the British were the first to ban it...and I am suprised about American exposure to British things i.e. Blackadder...the impression over here is that Americans are iscolationists and only concerned for their own culture and programmes....I now know that that is not the case. I know also of those articles and regularly check them for updates...I used to say England myself, until I began to feel that unionism is better and I felt more British.....in fact it seems to be as a result of historical knowledge about the "British" empire which made this so...I want that there be a British football team! Whenever someone does say "Queen of England", I say "The last Queen of England was Queen Anne, back before 1707". And then there's Ireland...quite a tricky point for me. As a christian, I feel that Catholic imancipation really came too late and that any Christian, regardless of demoniation should have the same rights and therefore that that may have stopped the end of "The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland" and the formation of Eire, possibly decreasing confusion about a British, as in a UK identity. However, this seems at conflict with my antidisestablishmentarianist views, so that I am really a bit confused here where normally I would have developed an opinion...I see that you believe in the seperation of the church and state...I totally agree about the Lords and the monarchy as a safety valve for rampaging politians seeking their own personal gain...someone who is obliged to do a job is surely more selfless than someone who wants to...I am also in total agreement about socialism....a very bad concept, and a misguided one, it assumes that everyone is equal, ignoring the fact that people are in fact selfish and out for personal gain...and why not? I am so pleased that in Britain the Labour party in power pre-1979 failed...only just though...it was a close shave! Long live capitalism! Though New Labour is as Thatcherite fiscally now as the old conservatives :-). As someone interested in politics, and not just British politics, I am glad to know that socialism never caught hold in the US, where the spirit of freedom lives on... Lofty 15:37, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Byzantine names: suggested moratorium
On Talk:List of Byzantine Emperors I've suggested a limited moratorium because I don't think the current discussion is leading to, or can lead to, consensus. I hope you'll vote, for or against! Best wishes Andrew Dalby 13:27, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
