Tsukui District, Kanagawa

Tsukui (津久井郡; -gun) is a district located in Kanagawa, Japan.
As of July 1, 2004, the district has an estimated population of 73,718. The total area is 238.44 km². (This data includes both the former towns of Sagamiko and Tsukui)

[edit] Mergers
On March 20, 2006, the towns of Sagamiko and Tsukui were merged into Sagamihara.
On March 11, 2007, Fujino is scheduled to merge into Sagamihara.
[edit] Merger problems
On February 19, 2006, the current mayor of Shiroyama was recalled for denying to join Sagamiko, Tsukui, and Fujino(scheduled to merge with Sagamihara in the future) to merged into Sagamihara. Tsukui District failed to dissolve as a result of this recall election.
However on March 19, 2006, the pro-merger mayor has been elected and the Sagamihara-Shiroyama Gappeikyougikai has been created.
The official dissolved date of this district is set on March 11, 2007, if Shiroyama joins with Fujino to merge into Sagamihara.
