The lead-off single from Megadeth's album Cryptic Writings, Trust was released in the summer of 1997, and it received significant airplay and MTV rotation. The song reached #5 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. Considered a ballad, the song tells the story of relationships that have failed due to mutual dishonesty. Because of its lyrical content, radio-friendly hooks, and slow tempo, Trust (and Cryptic Writings as a whole) was considered by many critics to be a departure from traditional Megadeth offerings. Nevertheless, the song was nominated for a Grammy award in January, 1998 for best Heavy Metal performance. It was also included both of Megadeth's greatest hits compilations, Capitol Punishment, and Greatest Hits: Back to the Start.
Trust was written by Dave Mustaine and Marty Friedman.
