Truggy
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A truggy or truggie is a specialized off-road vehicle. "Truggy" comes from combining the words "truck" and "buggy".
Truggies are most commonly built for recreational purposes. Most are homebuilt, though there are some companies that specialize in building them for customers. Truggies might be built from scratch, or they might be heavily-modified street vehicles that have been altered to the point that they scarily resemble their original form. A truggy generally has several defining features:
- A full roll cage, and possibly a full space frame chassis.
- Large off-road tires.
- Extremely long-travel suspension, featuring a solid axle front and rear.
- An Open wheel configuration.
- locking differentials and low gearing
Many trugges are equipped with powerful engines and winches. Some are street legal, though many of them are built and used for off-road use only.
The most common recreational uses of truggies are mud bogging, desert racing, and rockcrawling.
