Tronador is a volcano in the border between Argentina and Chile near Bariloche, separating two National Parks: Nahuel Huapí in Argentina and Vicente Pérez Rosales in Chile. It is covered by seven glaciers (Frias, Alerce, Castaño Overo, Manso, Peulla, Casa Pangue y Río Blanco) and it is 3,491 meters high. It was named Tronador (Spanish for 'Thunderer') by locals in reference of the sound of falling seracs. It was first climbed by Hermann Claussen on 29 January 1934 in solitary after several attempts.
