- September 1, 1984 - Typhoon Ike (track pictured), also called Typhoon Nitang made landfall in the eastern Philippines with winds of 230 km/h (145 mph). Ike killed between 1000 and 3000 people in the Philippines and China.
- September 2, 1937 - The Hong Kong Typhoon of 1937 hit Hong Kong, killing over 11,000 in the British colony (now part of China).
- September 3, 1935 - The Labor Day Hurricane of 1935 hit the Florida Keys as a Category 5 hurricane with a central pressure of 892 mbar (hPa), making it the most intense hurricane to hit the United States. It caused over $40 million of damage in Florida (pictured).
- September 4, 1930 - The 1930 Dominican Republic Hurricane crossed over Hispaniola, killing between 2000 and 8000 people, mostly in the Dominican Republic (pictured).
- September 5, 2004 - Hurricane Frances (pictured) hit Florida just three weeks after Hurricane Charley had struck the state. Frances caused about $10 billion in damages.
- September 6, 1776 - The 1776 Pointe-à-Pitre hurricane hit Pointe-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe killing about 6000 people.
- September 7, 2004 - Hurricane Ivan (pictured) passed just to the north of Grenada causing over $800 million of damage on the island. Ivan caused a total of over $16 billion of damage, mostly in the United States.
- September 8, 1900 - The Galveston Hurricane of 1900 struck Galveston, Texas, (pictured) with winds in excess of 150 mph (240 km/h). The hurricane is the deadliest in the history of the United States and killed over 8000 people.
- September 9, 1965 - Hurricane Betsy hit Louisiana as a Category 3 hurricane, flooding much of New Orleans (pictured). Betsy was the first hurricane to cause over $1 billion of damages.
- September 10, 2003 - Typhoon Maemi (pictured) reached its peak strength to the east of Taiwan. Maemi killed 115 and caused over $4 billion in damage, mostly in South Korea.
- September 11, 1992 - Hurricane Iniki (pictured) hit the Hawaiian island of Kauai with winds of 140 mph (225 km/h). Iniki is the strongest and costliest hurricane to strike the state, causing $1.8 billion of damage.
- September 12, 1961 - Typhoon Nancy (pictured) reaches its peak with winds of 345 km/h (215 mph), the highest sustained winds of any tropical cyclone. Nancy killed over 170 in Japan.
- September 13, 1997 - Hurricane Linda (pictured) became the strongest Pacific hurricane on record, with a pressure of 902 mbar (hPa) off the Mexican coast.
- September 14, 1988 - Hurricane Gilbert (pictured) reached its peak with a central pressure of 888 mbar (hPa) to the south of the Cayman Islands. Gilbert killed over 300 people throughout the Caribbean.
- September 15, 1995 - Hurricane Ismael (pictured) made landfall in Sinaloa, Mexico as a minimal hurricane. Ismael killed 116 people and caused $26 million of damage.
- September 16, 1928 - The 1928 Okeechobee Hurricane (track pictured) made landfall in Florida with a central pressure of 929 mbar (hPa). Over 2500 died in Florida, mostly in the Lake Okeechobee area.
- September 17, 2004 - Hurricane Jeanne passed over Hispaniola, bringing intense rain to the island. The rains caused severe flooding in Haiti (pictured), killing over 3000 people.
- September 18, 1926 - The 1926 Miami Hurricane made landfall just to the south of Miami (pictured) devastating the city. Experts estimate that if the same storm struck today it would cause over $100 billion of damage.
- September 19, 1974 - Hurricane Fifi (pictured) made landfall in Belize as a Category 2 hurricane. Fifi killed over 10,000 people, making it one of the most deadly hurricanes on record.
- September 20, 1967 - Hurricane Beulah (pictured) hit Texas just north of the Rio Grande. Beulah caused severe flooding in the state, with the resulting damage exceeding $1 billion.
- September 21, 1938 - The New England Hurricane of 1938 hit Long Island, New York as a Category 3 hurricane with a central pressure of 946 mbar (hPa). The hurricane killed between 500 and 700 in New England (pictured).
- September 22, 1989 - Hurricane Hugo (pictured) hit South Carolina with 140 mph (220 km/h) winds. Hugo was the first hurricane to cause over $10 billion of damage and killed 76 people.
- September 23, 1998 - Hurricane Georges (pictured) passed over the Windward Passage and hit Cuba just east of Guantanamo Bay. Georges killed over 600 people throughout the Caribbean, mostly on Hispaniola.
- September 24, 2005 - Hurricane Rita hit the Texas-Louisiana border with winds of 115 mph (185 km/h). Rita prompted massive evacuations (pictured) and caused over $10 billion in damage.
- September 25, 1939 - The 1939 Long Beach Tropical Storm struck California as a tropical storm, becoming the only tropical cyclone on record to make landfall in the state. The storm killed 45 people.
- September 26, 1959 - Typhoon Vera (track pictured) hit the coast of Kansai, Japan with winds of 260 km/h (160 mph). The typhoon killed over 5000 people and caused $261 million of damage.
- September 27, 1991 - Typhoon Mireille (pictured) hit southwestern Japan with winds of 165 km/h (105 mph). Mireille caused over $3 billion damage, mostly to crops and killed 52.
- September 28, 1955 - Hurricane Janet (track pictured) hit the Yucatán Peninsula of Mexico as a Category 5 hurricane. Janet killed over 500 people on the peninsula, in both Mexico and British Honduras (now Belize).
- September 29, 1966 - Hurricane Inez (pictured) hit southern Hispaniola shortly after its peak. Inez killed over 1000 people along its track.
- September 30, 1982 - Hurricane Paul (pictured) hit the Mexican state of Sinaloa as a 100 mph (155 km/h killing over 1000 people.
