Tristan DuGrey

Tristan DuGrey is a fictional character from the TV series Gilmore Girls, played by Chad Michael Murray.

Tristan appeared during the first two seasons as a student at Chilton. On the surface, he seemed like a stereotypical spoiled rich boy, proud, arrogant, and used to getting what he wanted. Despite a somewhat antagonistic attitude towards her, Tristan took a liking to Rory Gilmore, the shy, soft spoken daughter of Lorelai Gilmore and Christopher Hayden, but the feeling was not exactly mutual. Tristan's primary purpose from there was to serve as a romantic rival for Rory's first boyfriend, Dean Forester, while his interest in her served to annoy classmate Paris Geller, who had a crush on Tristan. Tristan's interest in Rory as a potential girlfriend became more apparent when Chilton held a dance for its students; Tristan tried to ask Rory out in his way, but Rory shot him down because Dean was taking her. Tristan was greatly annoyed at being rejected in favor of a blue collar grocery boy and, as a result, got into a fight with Dean that resulted in Dean and Rory walking out early. Dean could tell Tristan liked Rory, but Rory wasn't sure how she felt.

When her relationship with Dean appeared to have ended, Tristan tried tone down his attitude and attempted to win her over, but in the end he was unsuccessful.

He then appeared for the last time in one second season episode, where Tristan fell in with a group of troublemakers pulling pranks throughout the school and shirked off his studies, much to the anger and dismay of Paris, who needed him as her Romeo in a Romeo and Juliet scene project. He would end up forced into military school by his father, after him and his new friends were caught burglarizing a home of one of the boys, and trying to break into a safe. Rory was the Juliet in the project and was dismayed at the news, but the two left on somewhat well terms, as he tells Rory how sorry he was for the safe and his treatment of her, and that he would have kissed Rory goodbye, had Dean not been there. Paris then jumped in as a last-minute Romeo, much to Rory's shock.

Tristan was phased out, due to Murray moving on into a new recurring role as Charlie Todd, a love interest for Joey Potter (Katie Holmes) on Dawson's Creek, and later onto a starring role as Lucas Scott on One Tree Hill.

Logan Huntzberger (Matt Czuchry), who would become Rory's third boyfriend during the fifth season, is similar to Tristan in his blue blood upbringing and somewhat in looks, but not completely the same in behavior.
