[edit] Triplet Cities Minnesota
There has been much talk recently on the possibility of changing the title of the Twin Cities to the Triplet Cities. This change could happen soon and I believe this would give credit to the world famous city of Bloomington. The main reason is to annex in one of the most revenue producing cities in the whole state of Minnesota, Bloomington... Home of the Mall Of America and many other high profile businesses.
Some talk has come up about renaming the Twin Cities to the Tri-Cities instead... Well just as in marketing a product, this would create brand confusion as there is already areas named triple-cities and tri-cities. So these terms are out.

The name Triplet Cities works great for naming the three most income producing cities in Minnesota... Bloomington, Minneapolis & St. Paul.

In this article, I quote directly from the last link...Here are people's suggestions for which city should be included as the third city and why they believe this.
Bloomington is probably a pretty common answer. It has the Mall of America and lots of commercial and retail along 494. It also has river frontage like both Minneapolis and St Paul. Submitted by keitthsomebody
Bloomington - it has become the "third downtown". Submitted by greystreet
Bloomington, because of the airport and the Megamall. Submitted by Linda
Bloomington, the 'other' play city. Submitted by isbjorn
Duluth. It would cool off our summers. Give us access to the Minnesota substitute for the ocean, give us an international port and give us a good blues festival. Since it probably is not possible to physically move the cities together, Duluth could be linked by a very high speed rail service (e.g. 180 MPH). This would make Duluth as close to Downtown MInneapolis as Anoka. Submitted by shamelessagitator
Mendota Heights, because it completes the triangle of where the Minnesota River merges into the Mississippi River, and because the Mendota Bridge is one of the few spots in the cities where both downtowns may be seen from the same vantage point! Submitted by juliakay
Richfield. I think we need the element of trailer parks. Plus, to be entertained by Miss Richfield 1981 as the Triplet Cities head hostess with the mostess would be electrifying. We could use an acronym to identify us as the Triplet Cities, SPRM (pronounced, sperm, SP=St. Paul, R=Richfield, M=Minneapolis). SPRM, the seed that can grow into a strong region and revitalize the area. Submitted by iphelia_payne
^-- Theres a reason NOT to include Richfield as the third city if I've ever heard one... The acronym would be SPRM as in SPERM... SP=St. Paul, R=Richfield, M=Minneapolis. Bloomington seems to be the most logical choice and is internationally known.. A distinction that the other cities barring Duluth do not have. Duluth is not physically near Minneapolis / St. Paul or it would be a candidate as well.
