Triolet, Mauritius
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Triolet, the largest village in the district of Pamplemousses in the island of Mauritius. Triolet is linked with the coastal roads linking the capital named Port Louis and to Mapou. It reflects the blend of cultures that is the life-blood of Mauritius. A patch of civilisation amid green sugarcane fields, it has a great socio-economic value.
The presence of the island's biggest, the Maheshwarnath Temple, contributes to religious significance of the village. Notably, it was the starting point for the first-ever Mahashivaratree pilgrimage. It all started when a resident of Triolet had a vision of a sacred lake surrounded by dense forestry. A group of sages, who set out for a journey among the dense vegetations of the island's inland in search for that lake, discovered the Ganga Talao, also known as the Grand-Bassin (literally: the big lake). Ever since then, all Hindus living on the island converge annually to that local version of India's sacred Ganges River to pray on the occasion of the festival of Mahashivratree. The latter usually takes place in the month of February. Five minutes from Triolet is Trou-aux-Biches, which boasts one of Mauritius and world's finest beaches. It is a picture of perfection for holiday-makers. The surrounding villages are of equal importance, mainly Pointe-aux-Piments, where the island's newly opened aquarium is and Mont-Choisy, with its long stretch of pearly sand and warm shallow waters. Triolet bears its name `tri` because it is divided into three parts, namely, 7th mile, 8th mile and 9th mile. There are three primary schools SIR HARILALL VAGHJEE, MAHESHWARNATH AND DANESWOCK SEWRAJ which are all government schools. by the year 2002 there were only 2 secondary schools namely LADY SUSHIL S.S.S and INTERNATIONAL COLLEGE, but by now 2 more colleges have been built. there are many temples, kovils, mosques and churches in triolet. The village starts with a MOTHER MARRY cave on the left of the road and on the right there is a kovil and the village ends at Maheshwarnath temple.
