Trinidad is the name of a Cuban cigar brand named after Trinidad, Cuba, a town whose staple is tobacco. The Cuban Trinidad brand is owned by Cubatobacco (aka Cubatobac, Cubatobaco), a multi-brand Cuban tobacco corporation.

[edit] History

Trinidad's products became publicly purchasable in 1998 with the recreation of the long, skinny, medium-bodied vitola named "the Fundadore". The Fundadore has supposedly been used as a gift from Castro to diplomats upon visiting Cuba; however, even if this was once true, it probably isn't anymore, considering Castro's denial of using anything but Cohiba cigars as gifts.

In 2004, Trinidad released three more vitolas to join the Fundadore. The Coloniales, the Reyes, and the critically acclaimed Robusto Extra, seem to have all received rave reviews. At the time of this article, the Trinidad Robusto Extra has been ranked #1 for two months on an international cigar-review database.

Altadis U.S.A., an American tobacco corporation, technically owns the rights to all of the Cuban namesakes, Trinidad included. Altadis has produced its own line of Trinidad vitolas, including the "Fundador" (without an "e") in a natural-shade wrapper. Most of Altadis's Trinidad vitolas use Dominican tobacco as filler and can be purchased with a maduro or natural-shade wrapper.

Trinidad Maduro's slogan is "real men aren't afraid of the dark".
