Treephort

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Treephort is an American pop punk band on Asbestos Records who have been compared to The Dead Milkmen and Gwar.

An article by the Associated Press (AP) brought the band national attention in America in 2004 for their antics while on tour with Tooth Fuzz and The Sloppy Meateaters across the Midwest and Canada. The report alleged behavior including full nudity on stage, setting clothing and genitals on fire, doing backflips and lewd sexual actions.

The bands noteriety peaked in 2003 when the band decided to sneak its way onto the Vans Warped Tour, and proceeded to perform up to 4 times a day (to the delight of the majority of the mainstage acts on the tour, and to the dismay of venue security). The band was eventually kicked off on the east coast, after almost 2 months on the tour, after singer Kyle Knight was nearly arrested for indecent exposure wandering around in his briefs covered with regurgitated Yoohoo. The Following day in Virginia the band hijacked an unused stage at the ampitheatre and tormented local law enforcement who were carefully watching their set. Singer Lee Satterfield challenged the "pigs" to stop them. The were almost arrested upon exiting the stage after their performance, which would end up being their last on the tour. They were later immortalized on Alternative Press's list of "Top Ten Ways to Get Booted Off Warped Tour". The stunt was an amazing boon to the band, as they garnered coverage by SPIN Magazine, coverage by FOX news, and were named one of the "Top Ten Bands We Listened to This Year" by Alternative Press. In the eyes of many, this wasn't bad for a band who had never been on the tour to begin with.

As mentioned above, they were banned from the Flint Local in Michigan following a performance that included Joephort stripping to a thong and setting his crotch on fire. The manager attempted to pull them from the stage and Lee took the managers glasses off his face and began wearing them. The band packed up their stuff after the incident and the police were called. The band subsequently disbanded following the departure of their guitarist, Joe "Joephort" Klein, to the sci-fi rockabilly band The Phenomenauts

At the present time, Brian Thomson, bass player on their final album Enchanted Forest, is working for Virgin Records playing bass for Hope Partlow. Original bass player Matt Butler currently works as a garbage man. Singer/Guitarist/Co-Songwriter Lee Satterfield and original drummer Joey have formed a new band called Lazer Attack, playing acoustic rock. Songwriter/Trombonist/Keyboardist Kirk Stroud can be found haunting the Marietta, Georgia club scene in varous bands. Kyle Knight is now fronting a one-man project known as The Emotron. Drummer Sonny Harding is playing drums for indie-rock outfit Sorry No Ferrari.
