From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Treasure Cove! is an educational computer game intended to teach children reading and oceanography.
[edit] Story
The Master of Mischief has caused trouble again. After fleeing Treasure Mountain in the game Treasure Mountain!, he has run off to Invention Island destroying the magical bridge built by the elves. As a result of an awry experiment, he has released sea creatures called goobies, which are polluting the sea. The elves call upon the Super Seeker to collect the gems to rebuild the Rainbow Bridge and stop the goobies.
[edit] Gameplay
The player controls the Super seeker, who starts off with a supply of light, energy, and air bubbles. The game takes place in the ocean in a platform-like setting. The Super Seeker must use the bubble pump to capture orange sea stars which offer clues to the Super Seeker in the form of riddles, consisting of problems that deal with oceanography, reading comphrension, and math skils. The player must choose the best answer among three choices. If he/she gets the problem right, he/she receives a clue. If wrong, the player must capture the orange star again and receive the same problem, with the previously wrong answer no longer a choice. There are three clues total that describe the animal that the player is looking for. The player must find the animal which matches all three clues and shine his/her light on it. The right animal will be hiding the pufferfish, which is needed to plug the goobie tube from which the goobies spawn, and also to reach the next stage. There are three stages in each level, each with their own individual set of clues. Shining light on an animal that matches two of the three clues will bestow a gem to the Super Seeker which offers bonus points.
At the end of the three stages, the player reaches a bonus stage in which he must avoid sharks to reach the bonus gem. The bonus gem, when shone upon, gives bonus points to the Super Seeker.
The player has a limited supply of air and light energy. Air can be replenished by visiting the air station in the level, which offers a full tank of air at the cost of light energy. Light energy can be replenished by capturing pink stars with the bubble pump, or answering riddlers correctly.
At the end of each level, the Super Seeker gives the gems to the elves, and in return the elves give the Super Seeker a treasure item. The amount of gems found determines the player's rank. The player's rank increases as he/she plays and wins more levels. The player also sees the Rainbow Bridge slowly being reconstructed. The overall goal of the game is to reconstruct the bridge completely by completing levels until the reconstruction is complete.
At the end of the level, the Super Seeker is returned to the treasure room at which the player always starts. This room allows the player to see all the treasure he/she has collected in a gallery like setting. The treasure serves no purpose other than as a visual reward for the player and a way to motivate the player into wanting to complete their treasure collection.
