Travis Simms

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Travis Simms (born May 1, 1971 in Norwalk, CT, United States) is a professional boxer in the super welterweight (154 lb) division. Although Simms won the WBA Super Welterweight Regular Title by defeating Alejandro Garcia, and defended it against Bronco McKart, he was not the "real" WBA Super Welterweight champion during most of the time he held the WBA title. That distinction was held by Undisputed Champion Winky Wright until January of 2005.

Simms, nicknamed "Tremendous", is still undefeated but was stripped of the belt in May of 2005 for failing to defend his title against Garcia and has not fought since beating McKart in 2004. However, as the result of an out-of-court settlement of a lawsuit filed by Simms in 2004, the WBA reinstated Simms as "Champion in Recess" in August of 2006 while maintaining the full champion status of reigning champion Jose Antonio Rivera[1]. Simms and Rivera are expected to fight in January of 2007 in a unification bout[2].

His brother, Tarvis Simms, is also a fighter.
