From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Travis Roy is an artist and motivational speaker, but he is more commonly known for the tragedy that occurred during his short hockey career. He graduated from North Yarmouth Academy and received a scholarship from Boston University. On October 20, 1995, at the age of 20, a young promising freshman started his first game in his college career. Tragedy struck eleven seconds into his first shift when Roy fell into the boards and crushed his fourth vertebrae, paralyzing him from the neck down.
Roy is also the author of the memoir Eleven Seconds, depicting his struggle dealing with being a quadriplegic.
